Bradley Davis becomes winningest women鈥檚 basketball coach in school history
Bradley Davis has been head coach of women's basketball at 黑料不打烊 since 2015.
A recent win over UC San Diego for the women鈥檚 basketball team at 黑料不打烊 brought with it an achievement 20 years in the making for one of the university鈥檚 veteran coaches.
Now in his 11th season with the team, Head Coach claimed his record-breaking 141st win when the buzzer sounded on the 69-66 victory, making him the winningest coach in the program鈥檚 history. The former record of 140 wins, previously held by Melissa Taketa, had stood for 27 years.
Before he was named the program鈥檚 10th head coach in 2015, Davis arrived in Stockton ahead of the 2005-06 season to assist then Head Coach Lynne Roberts, who is now head coach of the WNBA franchise Los Angeles Sparks. He held the position for nine seasons.
When Davis was hired to lead the program after Roberts鈥 departure, one of his first hires was , who has also remained a constant on the Tigers bench 11 seasons later.
鈥淭his record is not mine. It鈥檚 one for our players past and present, and our staffs past and present,鈥 Davis said. 鈥淚鈥檝e always said my number one goal as head coach is to surround myself with great people. I鈥檝e been truly fortunate to work with great staff and student athletes, especially Amy Starr who has been as much a part of this as I. We鈥檙e not only proud of the record, but we鈥檙e proud that our values have aligned with the university鈥檚 over the years.鈥
Starr, who started ahead of the 2015-16 season, was elevated to associate head coach before the 2018-19 season and has been a part of all 141 victories.
鈥淚t鈥檚 an honor to work alongside Coach Davis,鈥 Starr said. 鈥淭his milestone is a testament to the dedication, care and selflessness he pours into our players and staff every single day. His love and passion for Stockton and 黑料不打烊 shines through in his unwavering belief of what we can accomplish. I鈥檓 very proud and grateful to be part of the journey.鈥
On the roster that achieved win number 141, there鈥檚 only one senior that has spent all four years with the Tigers鈥攕enior Sydney Ward 鈥26, a biological sciences major.
鈥淚 feel extremely lucky to have had the same head coach for all four years of my collegiate career,鈥 Ward said. 鈥淚t鈥檚 been amazing to see the growth within myself and my teammates that is catalyzed by Coach Davis and the rest of the coaching staff every day. There have been many milestones in my years at Pacific, but few have come close to helping Coach Davis become the winningest coach in Pacific women鈥檚 basketball history. The fact the win came on our season opener in my senior year was the cherry on top.鈥
Highlights under Davis鈥 time at the helm include 13 All-Conference First or Second Team selections, two Defensive Player of the Years and one Sixth Woman of the Year. The Tigers have reached the semifinals of the West Coast Conference Tournament three times.
Davis and the Tigers continue their season Tuesday with a marquee road match-up at Cal. The next home game is Sunday, Nov. 16 at 2 p.m. against Seton Hall. .
